Do not use XMP sidecar files when editing.This will reset all Lightroom preferences and settings. If clearing this out doesn't fix anything you can restore the files from backup. In Windows, this folder is located C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences. If there is any corruption in the preferences file this should clear it out. You can exit Lightroom, backup the preferences folder, delete the preferences files, and then restart Lightroom. I have had issues with the preferences file.This uses a lower-resolution DNG for editing which can speed up operations especially with very large files. Then in Edit > Preferences > Performance tick the box "Use smart previews instead of Originals for image editing". Select your photos, choose Library > Previews > Build Smart previews. To see if file sizes are an issue, Create Smart Previews for all your photos in the shoot.I've seen crappy laptops outperform my system with a low-powered display and not even using any GPU. Not a long-term solution, just exploring options. Set your screen resolution to low (try HD 1920x1080) and relaunch lightroom. To see if the high screen resolution is causing an issue, close Lightroom.Uncheck Edit > Preferences > Performance > Use graphics processor Try disabling your GPU and see if that changes anything.It might be set to "auto" and may be using a non-optimal GPU like one on the CPU instead of your Quadro add-in card.

Has less than 5,000 photos, no editing has been made to it, previews have already been generated, yet you're still a significant delay when switching between photos and labeling them in grid mode. A prime example being the project I'm editing right now. I don't have a big catalog, because of the previously mentioned slowness of Lightroom I've switched my workflow so that every single shoot is a new catalog.

It takes me almost 2 seconds to load one photo to the next and I have one a PC that is way overpowered for Lightroom use. It seems like Adobe isn't putting a focus on Lightroom classic at all and puts all the optimization it and attention towards Lightroom moible even though no one in the industry uses it at all.
